The drug belongs to the class of nootropics. Nootropics, also known as neurometabolic stimulants, are drugs that have a direct activating effect on learning, improve memory and mental activity, and also increase the brain’s resistance to aggressive influences.

The term “nootropic” is derived from the Greek – mind and – I turn, interfere, change. It was introduced in 1972 to describe the effects of piracetam on the sensory-cognitive sphere. Modafinil, like other stimulants, increases the release of monoamines, in particular, catecholamines norepinephrine and dopamine from synaptic terminals.

Areas of use

The drug is used for narcolepsy and, in addition, it is also effectively used for attention deficit disorder, in the treatment of resistant depression and multiple sclerosis, and is used as an additional agent in the treatment of antidepressants.

The drug is also used in the treatment of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, myotonic dystrophy, spastic cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s disease. In recent years, Modafinil has been widely used as a highly effective appetite suppressant and weight loss agent.

The military departments of some countries of the world are planning to replace the traditional amphetamine in the first-aid kits of special forces soldiers with Modafinil due to its more effective and beneficial effect on the human body. Modafinil has already been successfully used by astronauts, military and emergency personnel in several European countries.

Modafinil helps many people in situations where it is necessary to be in the best shape and tone in order to use their full potential to achieve their goals.

It is a powerful stimulant that improves memory, sharpness of intellect and other parameters of mental activity. It effectively relieves fatigue and restores cognitive functions of the brain. Modafinil is one of the best remedies for stimulating mental activity, reducing the need for sleep and treating depression. A very important positive point is the absence of such side effects as: addiction, overexcitation and a decrease in the sense of responsibility.

Dosing regimen

The usual prescribed dose is 200 mg once daily (more rarely, 100 to 400 mg/day in one or two doses). Modafinil is usually taken as a single dose in the morning or as two doses in the morning and at noon. As a rule, it is not recommended to take modafinil in the afternoon: modafinil is a drug with a long half-life and elimination from the body can take up to 15 hours.
